Romania will tackle Uruguay for the final place at Rugby World Cup 2011 after both recorded wins in their respective cross-continental play-offs.

Romania defeated Tunisia 56-13 at the Stadionul Gloria in Buzau while Uruguay dispatched Kazakhstan 44-7 at the CharrĂșa Stadium in Montevideo. The play-off final will be over two legs in November. The winner of that match-up will be rewarded with a place in Pool B at RWC'11 alongside Argentina, England, Scotland and Georgia.

Fly-half Dan Dumbrava was the star of the show for Romania - landing three penalties and five conversions to see the under-strength Oaks home. "Maybe this was not our best game, but in the end the boys delivered," commented Romania assistant coach Steve McDowell.

"One should remember that we have had a three week break and most of the players are on holidays. We will start to work on the match against Uruguay, when I hope the standard of our players will be much higher, as the domestic leagues will start in September and our players will be better prepared and motivated."

Romania, who missed out on automatic qualification behind Georgia and Russia in the latest European Nations Cup, have won both of their previous matches against Uruguay in the IRB Nations Cup of 2008 and 2009. An ever-present at the rugby's showpiece event, Romania also finished as runners-up in this year's IRB Nations Cup to World Cup-bound Namibia.

Uruguay, who claimed victory thanks to a hat-trick of tries from Leandro Leivas, have not appeared at the Rugby World Cup since 2003 with their only other appearance coming in 1999. They fell at the final qualifying hurdle for the 2007 tournament with Portugal pipping them to a place among the sport's elite.
