Wales face Namibia for the fourth time at international level in New Plymouth on Monday - with the Welwitschias boasting a surprisingly competitive record against the Welsh. Although Wales have won all three of the previous encounters between the two nations, their margins of victory have been relatively tight.

When the two sides met for the first time in June 1990 in Windhoek Wales struggled to a 18-9 victory over Namibia, who finished the game with 14 men after the sending off of Andre Stoop. Fullback Paul Thorburn scored 15 points in the game to save Wales from defeat.

The two sides played again seven days later at the same location. And Namibia pushed Wales even closer as they came within five points of a famous upset. Wales scored four tries with two from Arthur Jones as well as one from Owain Williams and a penalty try. But the accurate kicking of Jaco Coetzee and Shaun McCulley - along with two tries from Ben Swartz and one from Gerhard Mans - ensured a nervy day for the Welsh who eventually won 34-30.

Wales' biggest winning margin over the Southern Africa side came in June 1993 when they ran in five tries to record a 38-23 victory.
