Wales will need no reminder of Fiji's ability to cause an upset and their potential to derail Warren Gatland's side's World Cup campaign when they meet in Hamilton on Sunday.

Although Wales have won eight of the ten encounters between the two sides since 1964, including twice with Wales select sides, one match stands out as defining their rivalry. In 2007 Wales and Fiji met in Nantes in the pool stages of the World Cup. In a thrilling contest, widely thought of as the game of the tournament, Fiji pulled off a shock 38-34 to knock Wales out of the competition and progress as group runners up to Australia. Four penalties from fly-half Nicky Little proved crucial with a last-gasp try from Graham Dewes securing them a famous. The result was the only time the two sides have met on neutral territory.

Three years later Fiji again demonstrated their hold over Wales as they pulled off a 16-16 draw at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Having trailed 13-6 at the break Wales fought back to 13 all, only for Seremaia Bai to land a last-gasp penalty to draw the game.

Wales recent travails against the Pacific Islanders is in contrast to a previously unblemished record that included a 58-14 thrashing in November 2002.
