The International Rugby Board (IRB) is, for the second time in just under a fortnight, expected to launch an investigation into comments made on Twitter by Samoa's Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu after the Samoan centre labelled referee Nigel Owens "racist".

The Gloucester midfield ace, who caused controversy by labelling the IRB's treatment of his country as akin to "slavery, the holocaust and apartheid", launched a expletive-ridden online assault on Owens in the wake of Friday's Rugby World Cup Pool D defeat by South Africa, a game in which Samoa had fullback Paul Williams contentiously sent off.

Fuimaono-Sapolu tweeted: "All I'm hearing is how ******** the ref was. Ha ha. He was ****ing ****. I can understand the hate. Ha ha, good luck you racist biased *****."

The player escaped punishment for his first outburst after issuing an apology for his comments but could now be facing a suspension for a personal attack on Owens' character.
