All Blacks winger Zac Guildford could be out of contention for New Zealand's quarter-final against Argentina on Sunday after suffering a suspected hamstring injury.

Guildford, who scored four tries in his first World Cup outing against Canada last weekend, pulled up during training on Wednesday. However All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw returned to training after recovering from a foot injury.

"I just pulled up a bit short at training, we haven't assessed it yet," said Guildford who had been hoping his form against Canada would increase his chances of playing in the quarter-final.

The All Blacks have plenty of cover on the wings with Richard Kahui, Corey Jane, Sonny Bill Williams, Israel Dagg and Isaia Toeava all capable of playing out wide.
