Wasps will be without star winger Tom Varndell for three to four months after the flyer ruptured his bicep in training.

The news will come as a considerable blow to the Aviva Premiership side with Varndell one of their key players alongside fellow winger Christian Wade. He has undergone surgery and could be out until 2014.

In other news from Wasps, Rory Pitman requires surgery on an ankle injury and is out for the same spell as Varndell while Hugo Southwell, James Bailey, James Haskell, Phil Swainston and Elliot Daly are unlikely to play in September.

In better news, Chris Bell is available to face Exeter this weekend while Kearnan Myall should be fit for selection against Sale Sharks on September 20.
