Wales lock Luke Charteris is likely to leave Perpignan this summer after the former French champions were relegated from the Top 14 for the first time in 103 years.

Charteris' agent said the lock, who used to play for the Dragons, could make a return to a Welsh region this summer. "We are looking at options in France and possibly Wales," Christian Abt told BBC Sport.

There are fears of an exodus from Perpignan after they were relegated to the Pro D2 following a narrow 25-22 defeat by Clermont on Saturday. Charteris' fellow Wales international James Hook is likely to leave, while France lock Romain Taofifenua has already joined Toulon.

Abt admitted Charteris would leave "if we can secure a club in Top 14 or back in Wales". Reports in Monday's Midi Olympique say Racing Metro and Montpellier are both keen on Charteris.

The announcement is unlikely to impress Perpignan president Francois Riviere, who has called on players to commit their futures to the club.
