French rugby captain Fabien Pelous, who twisted his ankle earlier this month, began training with the national squad at the Toulouse stadium, the south western club physiotherapist Patrick Tepe said on Thursday.

Pelous, named by coach Bernard Laporte to succeed former skipper Raphael Ibanez on Sunday, got injured on January 7 while playing for Toulouse at Cardiff in the European Cup.

He rested for Monday's French training session at Blagnac, but was considered fit enough for training with the rest of the national squad at Toulouse on Thursday.

Pelous is still a doubt for Toulouse in their French league match against Narbonne on Saturday and for the February 5 Six Nations Championship opener against Wales at Cardiff.
