Tindall determined to rise to the occasion

Mike Tindall is determined not to let England down if he faces the daunting prospect of filling Jeremy Guscott's boots at Twickenham next weekend.

Bath centre Tindall is on course for a Test match debut in England's Six Nations Championship opener against Ireland.

The young Yorkshireman is among three uncapped players in the 26-man squad which coach Clive Woodward will reduced to 22 next Tuesday.

While his fellow newcomers Ben Cohen and Iain Balshaw also have realistic hopes of making the match-day group, there will be no bigger spotlight than that on Tindall.

Now that midfield superstar Guscott has retired from the Test arena Tindall is heir apparent to the England jersey his Bath team-mate wore with such distinction.

"Jerry has proved a very influential figure in my rugby career he's been my mentor," said Tindall.

"Having made the Six Nations squad, my next challenge is the 22 for next weekend, and then the starting line-up.

"If that happens then my intention is to try and stay there, hopefully carrying on from where Jerry left off."
