Ioan Bebb is set to undergo surgery today in an effort to retain any hope of continuing his career after being injured against Bridgend on Saturday.

The Cross Keys full back was admitted to hospital immediately after receiving a late blow from Bridgend's Chris Stephens - who was yellow carded over the incident.

He is certain to be out for at least six weeks and Cross keys coach David Rees toldThe BBC that he may have to retire.

"There is a tear in the retina and Ioan will have an operation on Tuesday," said Rees. "We are just hoping the surgery goes well, but there is obviously a chance it could be a scenario like the one that ended the career of Bob Norster. I have lost a goal-kicker for at least six weeks, but far more important than that is the physical damage that has been done to Ioan."

This is the second incident in the past 12 months involving a Bridgend player, with John Funnell facing court action over compensation in the next few months following an incident against Neath when James Storey had his cheekbone fractured.
