Kenya are closing in on a maiden World Cup appearance following their 34-0 win over Madagascar on Wednesday.

Kenya, who defeated Namibia in the opening round of the Confederation Africaine de Rugby Africa Cup, can afford to lose to Zimbabwe on Sunday and still qualify for the 2015 showpiece. All Kenya need are two points to ensure finishing at the top of the tournament tree as they are currently four points ahead of second-placed Namibia.

Ronnie Mwenesi's hat-trick helped Kenya to the win alongside a double from Joshua Chisanga and one from Humphrey Kayange. Namibia won their game against Zimbabwe 24-20 to keep the pressure on Kenya, scoring three tries in the process, but they need a huge favour from Zimbabwe if they are to book a place in a fifth consecutive World Cup at the first asking.

The winner of the tournament, with Kenya in the driving seat, will get a place in Pool C of the World Cup alongside New Zealand, Argentina, Tonga and Georgia. The second-placed side will face Russia in Siberia before then playing a two-legged game against either Uruguay or Hong Kong.
