Exeter Chiefs' Henry Slade has been called into England's training squad for the upcoming autumn internationals as cover for the injured Luther Burrell.

The Chiefs centre is joined by team-mates Thomas Waldrom and Dave Ewers in head coach Stuart Lancaster's training group, with the back-rowers coming in to cover for Billy Vunipola and James Haskell.

In total, Lancaster has added nine players to his 41-strong squad, with Ben Foden, Matt Kvesic, Anthony Watson, Richard Wigglesworth, Henry Thomas and Alex Waller brought into the camp.

Burrell is remaining with Northampton for assessment on the right hand he injured during his side's four-try demolition of Ospreys in Saturday's Champions Cup clash.

Vunipola will join up with the England camp to undergo the return to play protocol after suffering a concussion in Saracens' defeat to Munster on Friday night, while Haskell is still recovering from a viral infection he picked up a week ago.

Foden, Kvesic, Watson and Wigglesworth train with the squad as cover for players involved in Sunday's European games, while Thomas and Waller comes in for David Wilson and Joe Marler, who have calf and thigh injuries respectively.

The props, who were in the starting XV for England's most recent Test - a 36-13 loss to New Zealand in June - will be restricted to limited training this week but are expected to be fit by the weekend.

Tom Wood has remained in Northampton with his wife awaiting the birth of their third child and is set to join the squad later this week.

"We always anticipated bringing in additional players following the European games, either to cover injuries or for training," Lancaster said. "Luther will be assessed by a specialist over the next 48 hours and our medics are in close contact with Saints so we'll know more in a few days but it's great to be able to bring in Henry [Slade)].

Billy [Vunipola] will undergo the return to play protocol with us and will resume training once he has completed that. Injuries are inevitable but we are excited about the group we have in camp. We are raring to go and looking forward to getting out on the training pitch tomorrow."
