Ex-Wallabies coach Robbie Deans will take charge of the Barbarians' two fixtures in May.

The Barbarians have teed up a game against Ireland on May 28 and will then tackle England at Twickenham on May 31. In what is the Barbarians' 125th year, Deans said it was a privilege to be handed the coaching role.

"I count my trips back to the UK as special times in my rugby coaching career and a couple of fixtures against the third and fourth ranked rugby nations in a World Cup year are an exciting prospect," said Deans. "The Barbarians are an iconic team with a special place in rugby's history and it is a privilege to be invited to be their coach. Their performances against England and Australia last year were outstanding and that is the standard we have to uphold."

Deans is currently in charge of the Panasonic Wild Knights in Japan and he has called up two of his players for the games - Berrick Barnes and George Whitelock. Argentina's Tomas Cubelli has also been named in the Barbarians' squad.
