World Cup organisers are expecting to see a bounce in ticket sales after a thrilling finale to the Six Nations last Saturday.

The next phase of the tournament's ticketing process is now open, with resold tickets set to be on offer for face value next week, and a record TV audience of 9.6 million viewers for England's victory over France suggesting a surge in interest in the sport.

"We have had a very busy weekend on our website, showing that there continues to be huge demand for tickets for the rugby World Cup," Debbie Jevans, chief executive of England Rugby 2015, told the Times on Monday.

"Thousands of tickets have been sold during what was a fantastic Six Nations and we're pleased that more will be made available to fans from the end of this month."

Saturday brought a frantic day of rugby as Wales, England and Ireland battled it out for the Six Nations title. The three matches produced 221 points and 27 tries in a gripping climax to the tournament, which eventually saw Ireland defend their crown for the first time since 1949.

A spokeswoman for England Rugby 2015 said: "Super Saturday captured the imagination of the nation and with the rugby World Cup less than six months away, this is great for the tournament. We want 2015 to be rugby's year and for the country to feel like a rugby nation -- this weekend's excitement is hopefully the start of a year-long celebration of rugby."
