Argentina have suffered a blow ahead of the World Cup with winger Manuel Montero ruled out of the competition.

Montero, 23, has suffered his second knee ligament and cartilage injury in two years and faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines. He picked up the injury on Tuesday and expressed his disappointment on Twitter.

"Again, ruptured anterior cruciate (ligament) and outer meniscus. Very sad, especially because of this year," Montero wrote on his Twitter account (@manumontero91). He added: "There aren't words to describe my anger. But they say there's a reason for everything. Thinking of my comeback."

Montero has been a key player in Argentina's back division and has collected 21 caps. He will be absent from the 36-man squad that will travel to New Zealand ahead of their Rugby Championship opener.
