Cheika: A painful game to lose

Israel Folau ranks the Rugby World Cup as the highlight of his cross-code sporting career even though he was unhappy with his own form in the tournament.

"Being part of a World Cup on an international level, it doesn't get any higher than that, so for me it's got to be at the top of my list," Folau said as he and many of the Wallabies squad arrived back in Australia on Wednesday after their loss to New Zealand in the final.

Folau, a proven and regular game breaker from fullback, was relatively subdued after sustaining an ankle injury in the pool stage.

"I wasn't happy with how things went, obviously I think the injury set me back," Folau said. "But in saying that, that's part and parcel of what comes with the game. But I guess I can learn from the experience now and the next time I go through something like this I can go through it in a more positive way."

Folau, who will shortly commence a stint in Japan having signed a flexible contract with NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes.
