France full-back Scott Spedding has agreed a three-year deal to join Clermont Auvergne from Bayonne at the end of the current season.

South African-born Spedding made his France debut against Fiji in November and played in all three autumn internationals. The 28-year-old has been playing in France since 2008, when he joined Brive from Stormers. He subsequently moved to Bayonne in 2012.

"Scott knows our league well, and we know that he is the type of guy who gives his all and integrates well," Clermont coach Frank Azema said. "We are convinced that he will make further progress at Clermont Auvergne.

"He has other qualities too, very strong points such as the length of his kicking game, defence, where his ability to break the first tackle with his power. We are very happy he has made the decision to join us."

Clermont currently sit top of the Top 14 table.
