Wasps' director of rugby Dai Young claims his side's impressive win over Gloucester in yesterday's Amlin Challenge Cup had been coming for several weeks.

Wasps scored three tries and added a further 21 points via the boot of Andy Goode to win 36-24 at Adams Park, with Young praising both his team's defensive and attacking capabilities.

"We had two teams who want to play rugby and it was always going to be a high scoring fixture," said Young. "Having said that, I was really pleased with our defence and with the work we put in up front.

"For anyone who has watched us over the past few weeks the right performance has been brewing. We took the chances that we had and that was really pleasing."

"It's a good step up from where we've been over the last month and we seem to save our best for this competition."

Wasps were in the driving seat for most of the game until they lost No.8. Nathan Hughes to the sin-bin. Gloucester capitalised on their extra-man advantage by scoring two converted tries to make the final score closer than it should have been.

Young said: "We showed real intent but that yellow card really hurt us. However, I am really impressed at how we came back and pulled ourselves together.

"We didn't panic, took our chances and thoroughly deserved to win."
