New Celtic League gets green light
September 27, 2000

An all-encompassing Celtic league, including all four Irish provinces is certain to be a reality next season.

The 14-team two-section league will include all four Irish provinces, two Scottish Districts and the top eight Welsh clubs in this season's league. It is also understood that a sponsor and broadcaster will be in place before the competition begins in August. The pool stages would lead to semi-finals and a final with the Celtic Champion likely to enter a pan-European play-off.

Already negotiations are at an advanced stage to have the winners of Zurich Premiership, French league and Italian League join the Celtic winners in an end of season play-off.
