Newport Gwent Dragons have confirmed former London Welsh boss Lyn Jones as their new director of rugby.

Jones was recently released from the final year of his Exiles contract having cited a desire to move nearer his family in south Wales. The 49-year-old former Ospreys boss was widely expected to take up a new post with the Dragons and the PRO12 side have now appointed him to head up a new management structure.

Darren Edwards remains as head coach at the Rodney Parade-based region, Robert Beale moves from the rugby director role to team manager while assistant coach Rob Appleyard has parted company with the team by mutual consent.

Dragons chairman Martyn Hazell said: "With some key signings made during the off-season, we are confident that Lyn has the experience and expertise to support our coaching team and ensure that we get the very best out of our group of young, talented players."
