Scarlets and Wales hooker Emyr Phillips is out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

The 28-year-old, who has played in all but one of Scarlets' 15 matches this season, had the operation to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered in the Welsh region's Guinness PRO12 defeat by Cardiff Blues on New Year's Day.

Head of medical Andrew Walker told Scarlets' official website that Phillips' rehab would "begin immediately".

"Expect to see him back to full fitness during the pre-season," Walker said.
