Tigers hopeful on injured Bowden

Leicester Tigers boss Richard Cockerill is confident that new signing Dan Bowden will be fit for the start of the new Aviva Premiership season despite undergoing further surgery on an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old Kiwi arrived at Welford Road at the tail end of last season from London Irish but has been sidelined longer than planned, missing their pre-season fixtures to date.

Cockerill hopes that he will be fit to play some part in Saturday's pre-season hit out against local rivals Nottingham and is confident that he will be available for their Premiership opener against newly-promoted London Welsh.

"Bowden had ankle surgery in the summer and there were complications with that because it was still causing him problems," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury. "We had some scar tissue taken out three or four weeks ago but I am hoping he will start this week.

"If not, I am certain he will be fit for the start of the season and maybe get a run out for the A League side or London Welsh."
