London Irish: No approach for Kidney

London Irish have distanced themselves from an approach for former Ireland coach Declan Kidney.

Reports last weekend said current director of rugby Brian Smith will leave the Exiles at the end of the season to return to Australia. With the Exiles' relatively new owners keen to bring back some strong Irish roots to the club, Kidney's name was linked with a switch at the end of the season.

But London Irish's director of development Bob Casey has dismissed any approach for Kidney. Casey told the Sunday Times: "There is no truth in that. I have a lot of time for Declan and I have worked with him before, but Brian Smith is our coach."

And on Smith's future, Casey said: "When somebody's contract is up, there is bound to be speculation. As a club we have nothing to announce. We feel that is the best way for London Irish to go about things."
