Centre Luther Burrell will miss the early part of England's wider build-up to their Six Nations clash with Scotland after picking up a calf strain.

England have confirmed the Northampton centre will not take part in training at their Pennyhill Park base on Wednesday.

However, the 27-year-old will still have 10 days to find fitness in time for England hosting Scotland at Twickenham on March 14.

Full-back Mike Brown, who missed last weekend's 19-9 defeat to Ireland in Dublin through concussion, is expected to return to training on Friday.

"We reviewed the game as a whole squad and trained this afternoon," said England head coach Stuart Lancaster. "Luther Burrell has a calf strain and will not train tomorrow.

"Mike Brown has progressed well and we hope to have him back in full training on Friday. The majority of the bench players and non-match day 23 will be released back to their clubs over the next 24 hours and be available for this weekend's Premiership games.

"We feel they will benefit from some game time and to put themselves in contention for the Scotland match, and we will give an update on those players tomorrow."
