Johns blow to Ulster
October 18, 2000

Ulster second row Paddy Johns has been ruled out of Sunday's Heineken Cup trip to Toulouse.

The former test player had 6to be replaced at half time in last Sunday's defeat at the hands of Saracens and the injury has been diagnosed as a trapped nerve in his neck.

"It's a blow, for Paddy has been immense this season. But there is just no way he can be 100% for Sunday and we're just hoping he'll be OK when the French arrive at Ravenhill for the return tie on Friday week," said Ulster coach Harry Williams.

"With his experience he'd have been a real 'plus' for us, but that's where the squad kicks in, and we have the strength in depth now which means that even when we lose someone of Paddy's quality we have a top-class player waiting to step in."

Williams is expected to confirm his side on Thursday morning, with Russell nelson and Jonathan bell looking set for a recall after their recovery from injuries which forced them to miss the Saracens game.
