The USARFU Collegiate Division I competitions are down to the rounds of 16 with pool play set for this weekend in a number of locations.

Defending national collegiate men's champions University of California again host the west pool in Berkeley. They are joined by Chico State (California), Middle Tennessee State and Penn State.

The Naval Academy play hosts to two pools in Annapolis, Maryland. In Pool B, Indiana (Pennsylvania), San Diego State, Utah and Virginia Tech square off. Pool C sees Wyoming, Arizona, Connecticut, and the Naval Academay in
action.

Another service academy plays host in the final men's pool in West Point, New York. 1999 semi-finalist Army will take on Indiana, Princeton, and Rice University (Texas) for the right to move on in the playoffs.

"This should be a very interesting and competitive Sweet 16," competitions committee chair David Pelton said. "With the outstanding teams that have advanced, it should be a really fun and exciting tournament."

Women's collegiate teams will take the pitch in two locations. Pool A in Palo Alto, California with pools B, C, and D in Princeton, New Jersey. "This should be an exciting playoff after the tight results we saw in the territorial playoffs," Pelton added.

Arizona State, Smith University, Stanford University and Virginia face off in Pool A in Palo Alto, with defending national champion Stanford as the favorite.

In New Jersey, Chico State, Colorado, Illinois and Navy battle in Pool B, with Navy, a final four participant in 1998 and 1999, as the top seed. Clemson, Eastern Illinois, Massachusetts and Princeton compete in Pool C. Pool D has Air Force, Cornell, Marquette, and Penn State going head-to-head. Air Force has made eight Final Four appearances in the last nine years with two national championships, while Marquette was fourth last year.

Each of the winning men's and women's squads from each pool will advance to their respective final four round in Tampa, Florida, May 6-7.
