Mallett waits on Krige's recovery
July 25, 2000

Springbok injury concerns still surround flanker Corne Krige with coach Nick Mallett waiting on a final injury report on Wednesday morning before naming the team for Saturday's Tri-Nations clash against Australia at Stadium Australia.

X-rays on Krige's injured ribs failed to show any fracture or break, but persistent soreness continues to worry Springbok management.

Despite Krige's problems, there was finally some good news on the injury front for the Springboks after seeing three key players fly home on Sunday night.

Flyhalf Braam van Straaten completed training at Parramatta with few signs of the neck stiffness that prevented him from training on Monday. Hooker Charle Marais (knee) and lock Jannes La Buschange (ribs) also completed training.

And in a further boost for the Springboks desperate to end a three-game losing streak, replacements Mark Andrews and AJ Venter trained strongly after arriving in Sydney late on Monday night.

The veteran Andrews is expected to be named on the bench for his 62nd Test.
