Gavin Henson tipped for Dragons move

Gavin Henson's former team-mate Lee Beach claims the controversial Welsh centre could yet join the Newport Gwent Dragons.

Beach played with Henson at both the Ospreys and London Welsh and has spoken out in defence of the centre. Henson had a rough start to his time at new side Bath after he was knocked out by Carl Fearns in a city centre pub. The club has since taken action against both Henson and Fearns but Beach says his former team-mate is sometimes misunderstood.

"Gavin is full of confidence which some people take for big headedness," Beach told the South Wales Argus. "We've discovered recently that he can't take a punch! He's learnt that the hard way. When he came to London Welsh, it took him a while to get going but he soon showed his class. He could kick the ball miles and he could create gaps for players - his distribution is top class. He is such a professional in his approach to training, diet and looking after himself."

And Beach, who will captain the Dragons this term, has tipped Henson to make the move to Rodney Parade to link up with his former Ospreys and Exiles coach Lyn Jones. Beach added: "I am surprised Gavin didn't come to the Dragons with Lyn, but I think it's a case of 'watch this space'. Gavin likes Lyn, and Lyn likes Gavin. When he's on form, Gavin's still a very capable player."
