Newcastle coach Dean Richards has told a supporters' forum that the club gets a bad rub with referees, especially away from home.

Asked about the recent game against Leicester, when the Tigers had three men sin-binned in a home match they led 10-3 before losing 41-18, Richards said: "I don't think we get very much out of the referees at all. The appointment of the referees is quite startling in some respects.

"You have referees that some people would say are favourable to the home side, and we never seem to get those referees when we play at home. We get probably some of the very best referees at home who are straight down the line, and whenever we play away we seem to get those who favour the home sides or are easily influenced by the home side.

"There is very little goes in your favour. The one time it did was Leicester at home, when I think the referee was a little bit probably in awe of the history behind Leicester, and a lot of the decisions didn't go our way.

"Since that game we sat down with the referees and the referee coaches, and went through the clips. They have held their hand up and said they got it horribly wrong.

"It doesn't do us any favours, but they have said they got it horribly wrong. We will see whether there is any change going forward."
