Felipe Contepomi will captain Argentina and start at fly-half for Saturday's Test against Italy in Verona in the absence of the injured Juan Hernandez

Hernandez, a key player for the Pumas, injured a hamstring playing for Racing Metro and will miss all of Argentina's November tour which also features tests against France and Ireland. Contepomi and outside centre Gonzalo Tiesi are the only regular 2007 World Cup backs in the Pumas side named by coach Santiago Phelan.

Lock Patricio Albacete also misses the tour through injury with relative newcomer Mariano Galarza lining up alongside Biarritz's Manuel Carizza in the second row. The Pumas were already without Stade Francais back-rower Juan Manuel Leguizamon after he picked up an 80-day ban for making contact with the eye area of Toulouse's Jean Bouilhou.

Miguel De Achaval and Genaro Fessia, two of three home-based forwards in the squad, are selected at flanker and the front row consists of props Martin Scelzo and Rodrigo Roncero and hooker Mario Ledesma.

Argentina: M Rodriguez (Stade Francais); G Camacho (Harlequins), G Tiesi (Stade Francais), S Fernandez (Montpellier), L Gonzalez Amorosino (Leicester), F Contepomi (Toulon, capt), N Vergallo (Toulouse); R Roncero (Stade Francais), M Ledesma (Clermont Auvergne), M Scelzo (Clermont Auvergne), M Carizza (Biarritz), M Galarza (Leinster), G Fessia (Cordoba), M De Achaval (Alumni), JM Fernandez Lobbe (Toulon)
