Argentine international Tomas Vallejos has joined the Scarlets from Harlequins for the 2012-13 season.

The second row played for Quins for two seasons and made his Argentina debut against Georgia at the 2011 World Cup. He had risen up through the Argentina age-grade sides and won caps at under-17, under-18, under-20 and under-23 level. Prior to joining Harlequins he played for Parma in Italy.

"He is a player we have followed closely throughout last season while he was at Harlequins and believe he can bring a new dimension to our second row options enhancing and strengthening our set piece play," Scarlets head coach Simon Easterby said. "We want to bring in players that are the right fit for us as well as complementing the players we have here already. He is an excellent line-out forward, an athletic player and exactly the type of player we see fitting well with the way we want to play at the Scarlets going forward and our ambitions for the future."

The Argentine is one of two second-rows to join the west Wales side after they also brought in South African George Earle. The 25-year-old joins from Super Rugby sides the Cheetahs for whom he made nine appearances this season.

"We have been clear that we would be committed to strengthening our second row options as part of our further progression next season and its positive for the region and the wider squad will have two talented, ambitious international-class players joining us next season," Easterby said. "It adds to the dynamic in the squad with two players that we believe can really add an edge to our game."
