Argentina are in talks with Australia to hold their home Rugby Championship match at Twickenham, UAR president Carlos Araujo has revealed.

Araujo is currently in Australia for the annual South Africa, New Zealand and Australian Rugby (SANZAR) talks, where the idea of hosting a Rugby Championship match in the Northern Hemisphere for the first time is being discussed.

"Taking a home fixture to Twickenham and London is very important for the UAR and for Argentine rugby," Araujo is quoted as saying by the UAR's official website.

"For our team could play a home fixture at such an extraordinary stadium says everything about the standing our side in the rugby world.

"The Rugby Championship is without doubt one of the most important competitions in the world and to take one of the games to the Northern Hemisphere would allow us to be the home side in the country where our sport was born."

Argentina suffered Rugby World Cup semifinal defeat to the Wallabies at Twickenham last October, when Daniel Hourcade's side were beaten 29-15.

However, Los Pumas returned to England Rugby's HQ a month later and defeated the Barbarians 49-31 in their last match at the stadium.
