Hastings to retire
January 31, 2000

Legendary Scottish centre Scott Hastings is to retire at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old former international, capped 66 times by his country, scored his 103rd try for Watsonians in their defeat by Currie at the weekend.

But after an illustrious career Hastings is now planning to concentrate on his role as director of rugby with the BT Premiership outfit.

``I will continue to play the odd game down the club but as far as the firsts are concerned it's over,'' said Hastings, brother of former British Lion Gavin.

``My hanging around in the top side next season isn't going to do anyone any favours, least of all the current regulars.

``They will have to get used to playing without me sooner or later anyway. We're looking to the future with the aim of restoring Watsonians to the forefront of Scottish rugby.''
