Pumas latest to pull out of Hong Kong
March 23, 2003

Argentina have become the third team to pull out of the Hong Kong Sevens because of the flu-like virus which has broken out there.

With Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARIS) so far linked to seven deaths in Hong Kong and several more world-wide, France and Italy - acting on the advice of their medical officers - last week withdrew from the tournament, which is due to be played from March 28-30.

The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) have cancelled the trip, on the eve of their scheduled departure for the Far East.

The game's ruling body, the International Board (IRB), said last Friday the Hong Kong tournament would go ahead without France and Italy because other countries had been approached to fill the vacancies.

Argentina had been drawn in Group E with South Africa, South Korea and Sri Lanka.
