Argentine five-eighth Gonzalo Quesada says his team can beat the Wallabies in the World Cup opener.

Among the first half of the tour squad to touch down for the tournament that starts on October 10, Quesada told AAP at Sydney Airport that the Pumas are capable of causing what he knows would be a huge upset.

"We have improved a lot since the last World Cup and I think we're ready to play a good game against Australia," Quesada said.

"I don't think we'll have many chances against them but Australia may feel the pressure of being hosts and defending champions and maybe, just maybe, with a little luck that will count against them."

While Quesada and some of the 30-man Argentine squad has arrived, the remainder of the party, including coach Marcelo Loffreda and captain Agustin Pichot, will land on Wednesday.
