Argentina lock Mariano Sambucetti has agreed a new two-year deal with Bristol that keeps him at the club until 2009.

The 27-year-old joined Bristol from Brive for the 2005-06 season and has had to fight for a first-team place with Gareth Llewellyn and Roy Winters competing for the second-row berths.

Coach Richard Hill said: "We knew there was a lot of interest from other clubs and we wanted to hang onto him. I think it's a sign of where we're heading as a club that we've been able to keep him despite offers elsewhere."
