Lewis-Francis misses out on 100m spot at Worlds
Marlon Devonish has beaten Mark Lewis-Francis to a spot in the Great Britain squad for the individual 100 metres event at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea this month.
Lewis-Francis was disqualified in the 100m final of the GB Trials because of a false start, leaving him relying on the selectors for a place in the team.
But instead Devonish, who was third in the 100m final, joins Dwain Chambers and Harry Aikines Aryeetey as an individual competitor in the event, with Lewis-Francis forced to settle for a relay spot.
Elsewhere, European 400m hurdles silver medallist Rhys Williams misses out entirely after failing to attain an 'A' standard time at the Trials, while 800m runner Michael Bingham, who also picked up silver in Barcelona last year, is absent, having failed to reach his final at the Trials.
In the discus, Brett Morse has been preferred to British record holder Lawrence Okoye, the sixth-longest thrower in the world this year. Morse beat his rival at the London Grand Prix on Saturday.
Jessica Ennis and Phillips Idowu are both looking to defend their titles in Daegu, while Mo Farah starts as an overwhelming favourite in the 5000m and 10000m. European champion Dai Greene is also expected to shine in the 400m hurdles.
UK Athletics coach Charles van Commenee said: "This team has been selected to give us the best possible results at the World Championships in Daegu. I am looking to see an improvement from two years ago in Berlin, where we recorded six medals and 20 top-eight finishes.
"It is important to remember there is work to do before London 2012 and Daegu is another stop on the journey to make our athletes run faster, jump higher and throw further.
"The aim in Daegu is to get more athletes within touching distance of the podium and these World Championships are ideal preparation for what the athletes will encounter next summer and beyond."
