The third fastest man this year, Steve Mullings, is reported to have tested positive for a masking agent, throwing doubt over his participation in next year's Olympics.

According to the Jamaica Gleaner, 28-year-old Mullings has tested positive for an agent used to hide the presence of a banned substance. As of yet, official comment from the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission is still to arrive.

Mullins has enjoyed a breakthrough year in the men's 100m, cracking the 10-second barrier for the first time. His personal best has improved from 10.01 seconds to 9.80, meaning he has posted a faster time than Usain Bolt this year.

According to the report, Mullings has been made aware of the situation and is set for a disciplinary hearing. Just 16 days before the World Championships, his attendance in South Korea is unlikely.

Mullings has previously tested positive for testosterone in 2004, when he was hit with a two-year ban. Third chances are extremely rare in a sport known for its tough punishments, as displayed by the lengthy exclusion of Dwain Chambers from Diamond League competition, which only recently became lifted.
