Ennis denied PB by hurdles blunder

Jessica Ennis thought she had set a new 100 metres hurdles personal best at the Great CityGames on Sunday, only to see it taken away because of a mix-up by the officials.

Ennis clocked 12.75 seconds to beat Olympic champion Dawn Harper and world silver medallist Danielle Carruthers in Manchester.

However, her time was invalidated when it emerged that there were only nine hurdles on the track, one less than the regulation amount.

Ennis said: "I am so annoyed. I still had a good competitive race, but I've just not got the result I wanted.

"I can't believe that. It's a great event but that's a massive, massive mess-up."

A spokesman for the organisers, Nova International, said: "There has been a technical error and there were nine sets of hurdles out on the course instead of ten.

"We'll conduct a thorough investigation and find out what happened and why and by whom. It's a very unfortunate mistake, we're very unhappy about it."

Meanwhile, Dwain Chambers placed second in the 150m, in what was his first race since learning he is able to take part at London 2012.
