Ohuruogu & Gemili show signs of fatigue

Christine Ohuruogu ran out of steam across the final 100 metres as she finished third in the 400m at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting, with Sanya Richards-Ross of Jamaica crossing first.

Richards-Ross, who won the event at London 2012, clocked 49.89 seconds; second-placed Amantle Montsho of Botswana managed 50.03s, and Ohuruogu ran 50.77s.

Ohuruogu was second behind Richards-Ross at the Games, but could not challenge in Sweden as she was made to pay for her rapid start - a change of tactic from her usual approach.

In contrast, Adam Gemili was punished for a sluggish start as he placed fifth in the 100m. The 18-year-old, who narrowly missed out on a place in the London 2012 final, stopped the clock at 10.22s, with America's Ryan Bailey dominating in 9.93s.

Shara Proctor's leap of 6.63 metres was only enough for fifth in the women's high jump, behind victor Yelena Sokolova of Russia, who managed 6.82m.

Rhys Williams was sixth in the 400m hurdles, with America's Michael Tinsley winning in a time of 48.5s, while Laura Weightman could only manage eighth in the women's 1500m, which was taken by Maryam Yusuf Jamal of Bahrain.
