Double Olympic champion Mo Farah has announced he has become the father of twin girls.

Farah, who is due to compete at the Diamond League meeting in Birmingham on Sunday, confirmed that his wife Tania had given birth on Friday.

Farah, who is stepfather to Rihanna, dedicated his 5000m and 10,000m gold medals to his unborn daughters after his twin success at London 2012.

"She is doing good, she managed to hold on and gave birth [on Friday] to two girls," Farah told Sky Sports News. "It was very exciting, one of the best days of my life again. It's amazing."

Farah will race over two miles at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium on Sunday, when he could challenge Steve Ovett's 34-year-old British record of 8:13.51.
