Sprinter Adam Gemili rounded off a remarkable year by running the fastest 200 metres by a British athlete in over three years on Sunday.

The 18-year-old, an Olympic semi-finalist in the shorter sprint event earlier in the summer, underlined his potential with a run of 20.38 seconds at the Junior League National Final in Derby.

It is the fastest time by a home sprinter since 2009, when Toby Sanderman clocked 20.37s, and less than a tenth of a second shy of the fastest time by a British junior - Christian Malcolm ran 20.29s as a 19-year-old in the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Elsewhere, pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale has confirmed she has decided to split with long-term coach Julien Raffalli - ahead of an expected move to link up with Dan Pfaff, coach to Team GB male vaulter Steve Lewis.

"We both felt it was the right time for a fresh start. I want to take this opportunity to thank Julien for all his hard work and wish him all the best," Bleasdale said.

"There is still a lot more I want to achieve in this sport and I am looking forward to continuing that journey with a new coach."
