Mo Farah geared up for his 2013 season with victory over 3,000m at the British Grand Prix in Birmingham.

His winning time of 7.42.00secs was a good eight seconds short of his personal best over the distance.

Farah drove the Birmingham field hard on the indoor track and emerged at the front by the halfway mark.

While he had no direct threats to deal with on the last lap, the Somali-born 29-year-old put on a burst of speed for the Birmingham crowd.

The double Olympic champion will compete at the London Marathon in April yet will continue to target success over 5,000m and 10,000m this year.

"It was a great reception, there was great support from the crowd," Farah said after the race. "I'm doing half a marathon in New Orleans next week and from there I'll do half of the course at the London Marathon.

"If you can get practice it's definitely well worth it. It's not just about racing, it's about dealing with everything, waking up in the morning, making sure you get a good breakfast.

"Then there's the race and the media and everything else. If you can practice why not?"
