Oscar Pistorius may yet run at this year's World Championships after his agent revealed the South African has received plenty of support from within the athletics community.

Pistorius is charged with the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who was found shot dead at his home in February. The Paralympic icon claims he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder and is expected to face trial later this year.

Lawyers acting on behalf of Pistorius recently had his bail conditions eased so that he could continue to compete and earn a living by travelling abroad during the interim period.

And agent Peet van Zyl claims several meeting directors have expressed support for the 26-year-old as he decides whether he is in the right frame of mind to return to the track.

It is understood UK Athletics is unlikely to invite him to compete at the London Anniversary Games in July, but IAAF spokesman Yannis Nikolau revealed he would be allowed to try and qualify for the World Championships.

"It is up to the meeting organisers to invite him for the one-day meetings," Nikolau said. "With the IAAF events it is if he qualifies for Moscow, and then - on the basis of innocent until proven guilty - he will be free to run."

Van Zyl told BBC's Sportsweek: "He is the only one who can determine if and when he is ready to train and return to competition.

"I have received through the whole ordeal emails of support from various meeting directors showing their support and condolences for Oscar and wishing him well through this tough time and they hope one day to see him back on the track.

"When the time is right we will approach competitions and I'm sure there will be guys out there who will be willing to have him back out on their track."

The World Championships take place between August 10 to August 18.
