Farah triumphs in Birmingham Diamond League

Mo Farah was one of the several British winners at the Diamond League staged in Birmingham on Sunday.

Double Olympic champion Farah edged out Yenew Alamirew and Hagos Gebrhiwet - the two fastest men in the world this year - in the 5,000m to take the victory, bursting through at the end to defeat the pair.

"The young guys wanted to beat me and I had to dig deep. The pace was slow and the conditions weren't great, it was very windy.

"Ultimately you've got to get the job done and to win the race. It's all about the World Championships and I'm just going to keep training hard," Farah said.

Perri Shakes-Drayton won the 400m hurdles, producing her quickest time of the campaign, and afterwards she said: "It's always nice to peak as you get close to a championship. We need to stay fit and healthy."

Olympic silver medallist Christine Ohuruogu was victorious in the 400m, while 18-year-old Jessica Judd won the 800m.

And Judd, who has put herself in contention to appear at the World Championships, said: "I am just so happy. Last year, I don't think many people knew who I was. Now, when I get a cheer on the start line, it's amazing."
