Tyson Gay tests positive for banned substance
Former 100m world champion Tyson Gay has withdrawn from August's World Championships after testing positive for a banned substance.
The American, who won 100m and 200m gold at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, found out from the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) on Friday that his 'A' sample from an out-of-competition test on May 16 had come back positive.
The 30-year-old's 'B' sample is yet to be tested, but Gay confirmed he will miss Friday's Diamond League meeting in Monaco as well as the World Championships in Moscow.
"I don't have a sabotage story. I basically put my trust in someone and was let down," said Gay. "I made a mistake. I am pulling out of Monaco [Friday's Diamond League meeting] and the World Championships."
Gay won both the 100m and 200m at the US World Championship trials in June, clocking the fastest time of the year in both events.
