Britons miss out on hurdles medals

British pair Perri Shakes-Drayton and Eilidh Child failed to secure medals at the World Championships after struggling in the 400m hurdles final.

Shakes-Drayton had made it through to the medals showdown after being the second fastest qualifier in the last-four. However, she hit the third hurdle and seemed to be affected by the blow as she finished seventh, with Zuzanna Hejnova claiming the gold medal. Child came home in fifth.

"My knee was wobbling and it has to be seen to now and I'm just gutted," Shakes-Drayton said after a disappointing race. "I was going so well and felt so good. I was still pushing but I was just losing control."

On the other hand, Child was pleased with her efforts in Moscow, saying: "It wasn't a great race. I felt tired tonight but I can't complain about being in a world final."

Hannah England meanwhile could only manage fourth spot in the 1,500m final, with Olympic bronze medallist Robbie Grabarz missing out on a medal in the high jump final after being unable to get beyond 2.32metres.

There was better news for Britain's 4x400m men as they progressed to the final, qualifying in second behind Jamaica.
