Adam Gemili has qualified for the 200m men's final of the World Championships in Moscow in superb style after winning his last-four heat to become the second fastest Briton of all-time.

Gemili clocked a time of 19.98seconds to come from behind and take the victory, and in doing so set the second quickest time by a British athlete - with John Regis holding the record of 19.87secs.

"I can't believe it. Honestly, that's the best feeling in the world. To beat 20 seconds - I'm over the moon. I didn't realise the time was me," the 19-year-old said after the race.

"I didn't know if I'd qualified. I've made the final, I've run a PB (personal best), and I'm so grateful. But I've still got the final, so must get back and get some rest. I'm happy with that performance, so whatever happens now... I've put myself in with some of the fastest men in the world. Crazy. Crazy, crazy, crazy. I'm speechless."

Olympic champion Usain Bolt safely made it through to the final after winning his heat in a time of 20.12secs.

The Jamaican, who has already won gold in Moscow in the 100m, was out in front on the bend, but began to see South African Anaso Jobodwana close him down. However, Bolt had enough to take the win to reach Saturday's final.

"I was trying to take it easy, trying to pace myself. At the last minute I heard footsteps so I had to change gears a little bit. Now for some rest, then later I can go. I'm feeling all right - just got to get it done," Bolt said.

Britain's Delano Williams and James Ellington were unable to continue their nation's success, with the latter only managing fourth in the same heat as Bolt - who he described as someone with 'ostrich legs'.

"I gave it my best. I would have like to have made the final - I was capable of it. But it was pretty hard when you see those big ostrich legs come past you on the inside! But I'm running well, and can only build on this consistent season for some great future seasons. Just got to get the relay done now," he said.
