Bolt and Rooney triumph in Brussels

Usain Bolt cruised to 100m glory while Martyn Rooney snatched victory in the 400m at the Diamond League finale in Brussels.

Bolt won in 9.80 seconds, beating out the United States' Mike Rodgers (9.90) and compatriot Nesta Carter (9.94). Bolt was slow out of the blocks again, but found top gear in the last 40m to surge past his rivals.

Despite capping off a season in which he won three world titles in Moscow with another victory, Bolt insists he could have done better.

"I got injured at the start so it was not the perfect season or the best of my career," he said. "The best thing is I finished on top.

"My start felt better but I need to work on it. I can definitely run faster."

James Dasaolu, who earlier this season became the second fastest Briton ever after running 9.91 seconds and reached the world final, finished eighth.

"For me it was about executing the start and I didn't do that as well as I would've liked to," he said.

"I gave it my best, but maybe I was a bit distracted. When you look at my goals for the season I wanted to run sub-10 seconds, which I have done twice, and I made the final in Russia."

Rooney produced a season's best with a dip finish to run 45.05 seconds and pip Belgian Jonathan Borlee to victory in the night's last event.

Triple world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the women's 100m in 10.72 seconds, just one hundredth of a second slower than her time in Moscow which was the fastest of the year. Her victory ensured she accumulated the most points in her event to win the Diamond Race, earning a £25,591 cheque.

Fellow Jamaican Warren Weir triumphed in the 200m Diamond Race with a win in 19.87 seconds.
