European sprint champion gets life ban
Bulgarian sprinter Tezdzhan Naimova has been handed a life ban from the sport after testing positive for the banned steroid drostanolone.
The Bulgarian athletics federation confirmed Naimova tested positive after winning the European 60m title in Gothenburg in March, and becomes the sixth Bulgarian athlete in the past five years to test positive.
Naimova had previously served a two-year ban for tampering with a urine sample in an out-of-competition test in Sofia in 2009, so receives a life ban for a second offence, while all her results from March to June have been annulled.
It also means Ukrainian Mariya Ryemyen, who came second in Gothenburg, is the new European champion with France's Myriam Soumare promoted to silver and another Bulgarian, Ivet Lalova, now receives the bronze.
